Indications

- Dissatisfaction with the size or projection of the chin, cheeks, midface, or angle of the jaw

Procedure
- Through an incision hidden within the mouth, the soft tissues are separated from the facial skeleton
- Implants of the desired shape and size are applied to the bone, shaped and contoured as needed, and anchored with screws
Recovery
- Swelling and bruising of the face peak at 2 days after surgery and largely resolve over the next 2 weeks
- Patients may wear a supportive bandage for 3 weeks
- Return to school or work after 1 week, but no strenuous activity or contact sports for 4 weeks
- Subtle swelling and numbness of the face will remain for up to 6 months
Result
- Provides a permanent enhancement of facial contours and proportions
Risks
- Infection, scarring
- Implant migration, extrusion, infection
- Residual asymmetry or deformity
- Numbness or weakness of the lower lip, numbness of the upper lip and cheek
