Indications
- Eyelid defects resulting from cancer ablation or trauma
- Eyelid deformities resulting from congenital malformations, paralysis, scarring
Anesthesia
Duration
- 1.5 - 4.0 hrs
In / Outpatient
- Outpatient or inpatient, depending on complexity
Procedure
- Local skin flaps, cartilage and mucosal grafts are used to restore the structure, function and appearance of the eyelids
Recovery
- Swelling and bruising affecting the eyelids peak at 2 days after surgery and rapidly resolve over the next 2 weeks
- Tearing and irritation of the eyes is common initially
- Return to school or work after 1 week, but no strenuous activity or contact sports for 4 weeks
- Subtle swelling may persist for up to 6 months

- Provides a permanent correction
Risks
- Infection, hematoma, scarring
- Residual asymmetry or deformity
- Drying of the eye, corneal irritation, visual disturbance
