- 1.5-2.5 hrs

Procedure
- Through an incision hidden within the mouth, the bony chin is cut, moved and rigidly fixed in the desired position
- Major alteration in chin projection or height may require additional bone (generally taken from the patient’s hip)
Recovery
- Swelling and bruising of the lip and chin peak at 2 days after surgery and largely resolve over the next 2 weeks
- Patients may wear a supportive bandage on the chin and neck for 3 weeks
- Return to school or work after 1 week, but no strenuous activity or contact sports for 8 weeks
- Subtle swelling and numbness of the chin will remain for up to 6 months
Result
- Provides a permanent enhancement of facial profile and proportion
Risks
- Infection, scarring
- Residual asymmetry or deformity
- Numbness or weakness of the lower lip
