Facial Asymmetry Correction




Indications
  • Facial asymmetry resulting from traumas or benign facial bone tumor
  • Congenital or developmental asymmetry of the eyes, cheeks or jaws

Duration
  • 3 - 8 hrs

  • Inpatient
Procedure
  • Through remote or hidden incisions, facial soft tissues and /or underlying facial bones are augmented, reduced or repositioned to improve facial symmetry
  • In select cases, computer simulations are employed to design and build custom implants
Recovery
  • Patients recover in hospital for 1 - 2 days
  • Incisions are healed within 2 weeks
  • Return to school or work after 4 weeks, but no strenuous activity or contact sports for 8 weeks
  • Subtle swelling and numbness in the face may persist for 6 months
Result
  • Provides a permanent correction
Risks
  • Infection, hematoma, wound or bone healing problems
  • Implant failure
  • Residual asymmetry or deformity
